The Atlanta Dream pick up two-time Olympic gold medalist and four-time All Star Swin Cash from the Chicago Sky in a pre-season trade.

If the talk was that Atlanta might be a little weak on forwards in training camp, then the Dream ameliorated the issue with the acquisition of Swin Cash from the Chicago Sky today.

Dream get: Swin Cash, 2015 3rd round draft pick

Sky get: Courtney Clements, 2015 2nd round draft pick

The link is here.  A quote from Angela Taylor says it all:

"We are thrilled to add an outstanding player like Swin to our roster," said Dream Executive Vice President and General Manager Angela Taylor. "Her accomplishments in basketball speak for themselves. She has consistently been an exceptional all-around player who can beat you several different ways. She also has a championship pedigree, having won titles as a collegian, as a professional and as a member of USA Basketball. She will be a tremendous asset to our team and gives us another piece to the puzzle as we continue to strive for a WNBA Championship."

Cash was a #2 pick in the 2002 WNBA Draft by the Detroit Shock. She played with the Shock from 2002-07, then with the Seattle Storm from 2008-11 and has spent the last two years with the Chicago Sky.  The Connecticut graduate is 15th-all time in career points (4,708) and 10th in all-time Defensive Win Shares (18.5) according to basketball-reference.com.

In exchange, Chicago gets Courtney Clements, a guard from San Diego State who averaged 9.3 mpg and 2.2 ppg over 26 games of the 2013 season.  Clements was not selected by the Dream in the 2013 WNBA Draft, but came to Atlanta undrafted as a training camp acquisition.  She was in the Dream's 2014 training camp before being traded to Chicago.

It looks like the Dream have addressed a need at the four that can play defense and who won't expect to be the straw that stirs the drink.  As the release said, Cash is a great all-around player and she can start right away.  Looking forward to seeing Cash wear powder blue this season.
