The Wizards and Lady Gaga could complicate the Mystics' home opener

The NBA Playoffs, along with one of the music industry's most popular artists could create conflict with the Washington Mystics on May 16, the date of their home opener.

Wow.

I gotta admit, this is uncharted territory for me, at least as a writer. This is the first time that the Washington Wizards have made the playoffs where they are in position to make a playoff run that would overlap with the Washington Mystics' season.

Last Saturday, the NBA released the schedule of games between the fifth-seeded Washington Wizards and the first-seeded Indiana Pacers for their Eastern Conference Semifinals series which starts Monday, or later today at 7 p.m. ET. If this series lasts to Game 6 however, that game would be played on Thursday, May 15, where it would conflict with a Lady Gaga concert scheduled at Verizon Center on the same day.

Obviously, many Lady Gaga fans, who are affectionately known as "Little Monsters," are not pleased according to the D.C. Sports Bog. And on SB Nation's Bullets Forever, Jake Whitacre wrote up a witty comparison between Wizards fans and the Little Monsters.

But how could this affect the Mystics, considering that they have a game on Friday, May 16? Here's how.

If the Wizards-Pacers series does go to a Game 6, the NBA Playoff game will go as scheduled on Thursday, May 15, which will force Lady Gaga to reschedule her concert. Her next concert date is on Saturday, May 17 in Detroit at Joe Louis Arena, home of the NHL's Detroit Red Wings. Since the Red Wings are no longer in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, that date would not be rescheduled, at least because of the NHL. Therefore, I could see Lady Gaga's concert at Verizon Center rescheduled to Friday, May 16.

If all of these things happen, the Mystics would be forced to play their game against the Minnesota Lynx at an alternate venue, or perhaps, the game could be delayed until Saturday, May 17 at Verizon Center, since the Lynx will not be playing on that date; their next game is on Sunday, May 18 at home against the Connecticut Sun.

It's really exciting to see that the Washington Wizards will be playing this late into May, but it could also be frustrating for the Mystics as they are anxious to start their regular season as well.
