Lynx vs. Team Australia Preview: Minnesota begins its postseason

The Minnesota Lynx hosts the Australian National Team at Target Center Monday, so here's what you need to know.

Marilyn Indahl-USA TODAY Sports

The WNBA's Defending Champions, the Minnesota Lynx will be playing on Monday in their first preseason game. They will face off against the Australian national team, known as the Jayco Australian Opals. Let's take a look at what's in store:

Where and when? Game is at 8 p.m. ET at Target Center.

Will the game be on TV or online? No.

Who is out? For the Lynx, most of their starters: Seimone Augustus, Lindsay Whalen, Janel McCarville, and Rebekkah Brunson will all be out. In addition according to the team, Devereaux Peters will also not play. Star forward Maya Moore will play, but given that this is a preseason game, she probably will not play many minutes. Sophomore guard Lindsey Moore however, probably will play a ton of minutes for this game. When you add the fact that Monica Wright will be out indefinitely due to knee surgery, Moore also figures to play a larger role this season.

For the Opals, WNBA players such as Liz Cambage, Erin Phillips, Penny Taylor, Leilani Mitchell, and even Lynx player Rachel Jarry will not play due to an agreement in the current WNBA collective bargaining agreement. Therefore, this game will essentially be an exhibition between bench players for both teams, but still valuable experience nonetheless for all of those who are playing.

Who wins? I predict that the Lynx will win the game.
