Shock vs. Stars Preview: The WNBA preseason begins with a matinee game

Training camp hasn't even lasted for one entire week, but the games are finally about to begin.

Skylar Diggins and Kayla McBride are on different teams, and you'll get to see them play against each other in today's Shock vs. Stars game.

Preseason games tend not to be so much about which team will win the game as much as it is about which bench players will make the roster, and which players could figure to be on the rotation, but there are still is a very good storyline nevertheless as the Tulsa Shock hosts the San Antonio Stars.

What time? 12:30 p.m. at the BOK Center in Tulsa.

Is it on TV or online? Unfortunately, no. We'll have to be box score refreshing for this one, unless you're in Tulsa that is.

Who is missing the game and why? For San Antonio, Kayla Alexander and Danielle Robinson will miss the game and come back next week because they are overseas. Otherwise, San Antonio should have a healthy roster, with Becky Hammon and Sophia Young ready to go after both missed most, if not all of the 2013 season.

For Tulsa, Odyssey Sims is doubtful because of academic commitments. In addition, Riquna Williams and Glory Johnson are overseas. According to Shock General Manager Steve Swetoha, Tiffany Jackson-Jones is supposed to arrive Thursday or Friday (today), and Vicki Baugh is supposed to arrive over the weekend, so safe to say that they won't be playing. One more note about Johnson, she suffered an ankle injury overseas, and that could sideline her once she's back in the U.S.

Big storyline of the day? I don't like throwing up college affiliations with professional players, but at least with rookies, that is basically unavoidable since college teammates will become professional adversaries of sorts. Stars rookie guard Kayla McBride will be playing against Shock sophomore guard Skylar Diggins in today's match. Both were teammates at Notre Dame when they were both in college.

Who wins? If I had to predict, I'm picking San Antonio.
