New York Liberty Acquires Tina Charles from Connecticut Sun in a blockbuster deal

Tina Charles is now playing for the New York Liberty, and the Connecticut Sun now has a group of young stars for the future.

After wondering what would happen to Charles, who was the WNBA's Most Valuable Player in 2012, we have come to a resolution. The Connecticut Sun made a deal with the New York Liberty where the Liberty would acquire Charles, but the Sun would acquire the Liberty's first round picks for both the 2014 and 2015 WNBA Drafts along with sophomore center Kelsey Bone. The Liberty did make a selection with their first round pick, selecting Alyssa Thomas, a forward from Maryland.

The deal was made official during the WNBA Draft, before the sixth overall pick was announced.

Here's a tweet from Doug Feinberg of the AP when the news first broke:

In addition, the Liberty's 2014 and 2015 First Round Picks have been traded to Connecticut.

After taking a look at this trade, I believe that the New York Liberty now has made a big move, and could be a force in the East for some time to come along with the Chicago Sky. Charles should form a really scary duo with Cappie Pondexter.

Though the Sun traded away its franchise star, Connecticut does have a lot of assets in return and there will be a pretty scary good young core in Connecticut this year and beyond. The Sun also had the 11th overall pick in the Draft with guard Chelsea Gray from Duke, so she only makes the rookie class in Connecticut that much better, once she fully recovers from a knee injury she suffered during the college season.
