2014 ACC women's basketball tournament preview: Diamond DeShields, North Carolina face Alyssa Thomas, Maryland at 8 p.m.

Pete Volk of SB Nation's Maryland site Testudo Times previewed Maryland's matchup with North Carolina today.

Maryland opens ACC tournament Friday, playing old rival North Carolina in the first of what Terp fans hope are three games in the tournament. The sixth-seeded Tar Heels beat Wake Forest 69-65 in the second round Thursday, and the winner of this game will face the winner of Duke/Georgia Tech. Alyssa Thomas, fresh off a third straight ACC Player of the Year award, is 14 points away from breaking Crystal Langhorne's program points record and 36 points away from breaking Juan Dixon's school points record.

JP Mundy has more on North Carolina's first round win, which included a big 17-point performance from star freshman Diamond DeShields.
