Dance Card: Texas, Big XII at-large

There's no shortage of pride deep in the heart of Texas.

Who? The Longhorns of Texas. I have heard the Lady appendage used, but not all the time.

What? Bevo is a Texas longhorn steer, the official large animal of Texas. Hook 'em is his costumed counterpart, because there are many places where a full-grown steer is impractical.

Where? Austin, Texas. Keep Austin Weird!

When? March 22nd, in College Park, Maryland.

Why? Strong schedule and strong conference record.

How? They were an at-large selection.

Surprise? Predicted to finish fifth in the conference, they ended tied for third, ahead of Oklahoma State on the tiebreaker.

RPI: 24

SOS: 13

Record: 21-11 (11-7 Big XII)

Good wins: Texas A&M in the Paradise Jam.

Bad losses: At TCU.

Who's running this show? Karen Aston, since 2012. Former head coach at Charlotte and North Texas.

Extra, Extra! The American-Statesman.

The Longhorns are led by the 12.3 points and 8.8 rebounds of junior forward Nneka Enemkpali. Sophomore center Imani McGee-Stafford adds 10.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game. If senior guard Chassidy Fussell is hitting from outside, Texas's offense opens up a lot more. That can be a bit of an if, however.

Really random thing that pleases me: everyone making the horns gesture in the team photo. School pride for the win!
