You're not supposed to expect Vandals, but yet we do.


Who? The Vandals of Idaho.

What? Their basketball team "vandalized" opponents. Joe was a yell leader's idea.

Where? Moscow, Idaho, which may have been named by fiat.

When? March 15th, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Why? They won the Western Athletic conference tournament.

How? Stacey Barr went the full 40 and poured in 28 points, and the Vandals beat Seattle 75-67.

Surprise? Predicted to finish second in the conference, they ended up in first.

Record: 25-8 (15-1 WAC)

Good wins: At Nevada.

Bad losses: Cal State Bakersfield.

Who's driving this thing? Jon Newlee, since 2008. Why would anyone leave a job in Hawai'i, even for a head coaching job? It's Hawai'i!

Aussie guard Stacey Barr leads the Vandals' attack with 18.7 points per game; the junior has a knack for getting to the line, with 173 attempts on the season. She's also second in rebounding with 7.8. Senior post Alyssa Charlston adds 14.4 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, while sophomore post Ali Forde takes care of business down low, averaging 7.9 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game to go with 9.7 points.
