Mercury get new jersey sponsorship

For the 2014 and upcoming seasons, Phoenix Mercury jerseys will be sponsored by the Casino Arizona and Talking Stick Resort.

According to the Phoenix Mercury front office, the Mercury will be changing jersey sponsors.  Out the door is Lifelock, and the new jersey sponsor is the Casino Arizona and Talking Stick Resort.  The casino opened in 2010 and is located in Scottsdale, Arizona and is run by the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community.  The Community are a major sponsor of the Phoenix Suns, which are owned by Robert Sarver - who also owns the Mercury.

The press release stated that the sponsorship was a "multi-year marquee partnership".  A new promotion for the 2014 season will be the "Lucky 7's Shootout", where one Mercury fan will compete for the chance to win up to $77,777 during each Friday and Saturday home game.

The new logo will appear on jerseys, warm-ups and other branded material.

The Mercury were the first team in the WNBA to have a uniform sponsor (Lifelock in 2009).  Phoenix is also the third team in the WNBA whose jerseys have been sponsored by a tribal casino.  The Foxwoods Resort Casino was a jersey sponsor of the New York Liberty from 2010-12, and the Tulsa Shock have been sponsored by the Osage Casino since 2013.  (This is not counting the Connecticut Sun - the Sun are owned by the Mohegan Sun Indian tribe and wear a Sun logo which uses a similar font as the casino font.)
