Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner and a teammate of hers for the Beijing Great Wall of the WCBA were stabbed with a knife before going onto a bus after a team practice, per Doug Feinberg of the AP.
The incident did not require Griner or her teammate to receive stitches or to report to a hospital, though Griner did get a scratch. She also released this post on her Instagram account:
First let me say I'm ok!!!! But last night me and 3 my teammates got chase and attack by a man with a big ass knife got a little scratch and my teammates walk away unharmed! He chase us into our bus and had us corned yelling at us then he finally left! Ugh lets just say I'm ready to get out this city we are visiting! Life can be took at any moment! Cherish every moment! AGAIN IM OK! Thank you to everyone that has been checking on me!
The suspect was a man who chased the Beijing Great Wall players toward a bus and the situation appears to be random. He was later apprehended. According to the report, it is not clear exactly which city this happened -- except that it happened right after practice.
Thankfully, Griner's okay and that the alleged perpetrator is in custody.
