Ivory Latta has been named Player of the Week for the Eastern Conference for games played from July 22 to July 28.
Ivory played just one official regular season game during that stretch, notching 18 points and a season-high 13 assists to lead the Mystics in an upset victory over the first place Chicago Sky. That win featured a great team effort with Monique Currie and rookies Emma Meesseman and Tayler Hill also scoring in double figures, but Ivory's contribution led the way. It was her first double-double of the season.
It is also fitting that Ivory won this award for a week where she played well in her All-Star debut. She had 15 points off four made three pointers this past Saturday in Uncasville, Conn., tying Epiphanny Prince as the East's co-leading scorer. All things considered, it was definitely a noteworthy week for the Mystic point guard.
Latta was also Player of the Week in Week Two, when she averaged 20.5 points in two games. This past week Tina Thompson won the award for the West after scoring 23 points against the Sparks and having the honor of participating in the All-Star Game in what will be her last WNBA season.
