If you were looking for a win by the Mystics where the rookies were primary catalysts, tonight was the night. Ruffin Pratt and McKenith had career highs in scoring with 13 and 11 points respectively. In addition, Emma Meesseman added eight points and 5 rebounds in 19 minutes of action. Tayler Hill was the only DC player with a shooting percentage well under 50% and she was 1 of 7 overall and had just two points. That said she did have five assists and no turnovers, which led the team there and Emma Meesseman was on the receiving end of many of those passes.
The veteran unit still played well overall, where Crystal Langhorne had 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Also, every Mystics player also played and scored at least one bucket in the game.
For San Antonio, four players scored in double figures and Danielle Robinson had a good night in the assists column where she had 8 dimes to two turnovers. However she was 2 of 7 shooting and only had four points for the night.
Like I noted in the Open Thread for this game, my emotions go up and down on this team, since I do like the progress the team overall is making, but obviously, it's not perfect in "my own little world" so I get frustrated too. That said, I am happy with the win and that the Mystics are now 5-1 against the Western Conference's "bottom three" teams, which is showing a clear sign that this team knows how to beat the non-elite teams at a very good rate. Either way, this team does give me a lot of positives generally speaking, and that you couldn't say last year.
Zack will have more stuff from the media room which will come soon.
