Sun Looking to Stay Afloat Through Injuries

Sun roster depleted after injuries to Renee Montgomery, Tan White.

Teams enter every new season looking to get out to a fast start and set a positive tone for their season.

In Connecticut however, the Sun may simply be trying to not fall behind the pack after losing All-Star guard Renee Montgomery and reserve guard Tan White to injuries during their recent two game losing streak.

"It was really hard you know Renee is a big part of this team," said Sun center Tina Charles, "She does a lot for us on offense especially to see her go down. Just been around her for the past eight years with AAU, kind of definitely hit me personally, but I'm just glad it was just an ankle sprain."

Montgomery suffered a left ankle injury in the team's loss in Chicago and then missed their loss in Minnesota. It was later announced that both her and White will be out for the next three weeks.

Without two key bench players, depth now becomes the biggest issue for the 1-2 Sun as they only have nine healthy bodies for Friday's home game against the Washington Mystics. No roster transactions to add a player have been made as of the posting of this article.

Montgomery started all 34 games in 2011 when she made the All-Star team. Last season she came off the bench and was the Sixth Woman of the year averaging 11.6 points per game.

White is a WNBA veteran guard with a deadly three point shot that will be missed in Connecticut's offense. In 2012 she shot over 40 percent from down town and over 83 percent from the free throw line.
