Washington Mystics defeat the Indiana Fever, 64-60

The Washington Mystics went on a 21-13 fourth quarter run to help them get to a 4-1 start and defeat an injury-hobbled Indiana Fever team 64-60.

I hit the panic button about Tayler Hill four games into the season. Should Coach Dunn hit it now herself?

For the Mystics, Ivory Latta continued to lead her team in scoring with 17 points, including three three pointers. Crystal Langhorne had her best home game of the season by adding 16 points, and 9 rebounds. She also went 6 of 6 from the free throw line, including two late in the fourth quarter that helped DC get ahead by two possessions late in the game. Monique Currie had an excellent game by contributing in other areas besides scoring where she did have 10 points on 3-11 shooting, but she did get 9 rebounds and 5 assists.

In terms of the Rookie Watch for DC, all four rookies played with Tayler Hill naturally getting the most playing time. She scored five points in the game including getting the first basket of the game with a driving layup which was an and-one play. Hill also took five shots overall in the first half. I was disappointed that she didn't play much in the second half but this was the first game of the season where I noticeably saw signs of integrating her in the offense, so that's progress.

For the Fever, Shavonte Zellous led the way in scoring with 17 points but also took 17 shots to get there. Tamika Catchings added 16 points and 4 assists. Overall, the Fever made only 35.5% of its shots while the Mystics made 38.7% of theirs, and were outrebounded, 29-37 as well by DC.

As for Indiana's Rookie Watch, I was disappointed. Layshia Clarendon had a DNP-Coach's Decision.

The Fever has a home game this Saturday against the Chicago Sky and has three of its next four games at home to finish the month of June. As for the Mystics, they go on a three game road trip out west starting with a contest against the Seattle Storm on Tuesday where they will have a chance to lengthen their winning streak even more.

Zack, our "media-side" writer will have some more cool things to say from this game.
