A parody of Taylor Swift's "Love Story" as it relates to Washington Mystics fans and Natalie Novosel

Tonight, the Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas will be on television. You can watch it on ABC at 8:00 PM Eastern after the conclusion of Game 1 of the NBA Western Conference Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and the Memphis Grizzlies which the Spurs won pretty soundly, 105-83. Even better, one of the main subjects of this post, country/pop singer Taylor Swift will be there and is expected to perform too! And one of our community members wrote up a parody of one of her songs as it relates to Washington Mystics fans and their former guard Natalie Novosel, who was cut last Thursday.

So where do we begin here?

ttdomi posted this in a comment in our Washington Mystics Media Day post. I know I'm guilty as charged of tying rookie guard Tayler Hill with Taylor Swift the singer, but that's life when you're a Mystics fan and pretty much how Taylor Swift has become the "unofficial artist of the Washington Mystics on Swish Appeal."

If you play Taylor Swift's "Love Story" music video above, and sing along with ttdomi's lyrics below, it is really funny and good since it really fit into the mood of last season. Here it is below:

We were both young when I first saw you
I close my eyes
And the flashback starts
I’m sitting there
In a Verizon Center soft chair

See the lights
See the hardwood, the foul line
I see you make your warmup foul shots
And then you smile, little did I know

That you were Natalie, you were dribbling greatness
And my usher said stay away from the team bench
And I was crying sitting courtside
Begging you’d please sub in, and I said

Natalie take me somewhere past the lottery
I’ll be watching all there’s left to do is play
You’ll be the star and I’ll be the true fan
It’s a love story, baby just play hard

So I sneak up to the team bench to see you
We keep quiet ‘cause we’re dead if they knew
So close your eyes
Escape this game for a little while

‘Cause you were Natalie, I was a starstruck homer
And my usher said stay away from TheWizzy
But you were everything to me
I was begging you’d just sub in and I said

Natalie take me somewhere past the lottery
I’ll be watching all there’s left to do is play
You’ll be the star and I’ll be the true fan
It’s a love story, baby just play hard

Natalie save us they say we’re gonna play real bad
This team is not the best but it is mine
Don’t be afraid, we’ll make it out of this mess
It’s a love story baby just play hard
Oh oh

I got tired of waiting
Wondering if you would ever be subbing in
My faith in coach is fading
When I met you at a superfan event, and I said

Natalie save us we’ve been losing quite alot
I keep waiting for you but you never play
Is this in my head? I don’t know what to think
She knelt to the ground and gave me a poster

And said, worry not TheWizzy
You’ll soon have many homecourt wins
I love you and that’s all I really know
I talked to my coach, go move up to our bench
It’s a love story baby just root hard

Oh, oh, oh, oh
’Cause we were both young when I first saw you

If you like this too, well, don't thank me! Thank ttdomi for all the hard work into this!

For the Swifties out there who just can't get enough of the music, click here to see Taylor's VEVO channel. For the Billboard Music Awards, Swift just happens to be in the running for 11 awards, which are:

  • Top Artist
  • Top Billboard 200 Album for Red
  • Top Female Artist
  • Top Hot 100 Artist
  • Top Billboard 200 Artist
  • Top Digital Songs Artist
  • Top Social Artist
  • Top Country Artist
  • Top Country Album for Red
  • Top Streaming Song (Video) for "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together"
  • Top Country Song for "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" (watch below)

Wow, that's a lot of award nominations! And someone notify me if I missed one but I think this article is my reference. Again, if you want to find out the winners, watch ABC tonight at 8:00 PM Eastern, and in the west coast I think you have to wait until 7 or 8:00 PM Pacific.
