The Vanderbilt Commodores overcame a late run by St. Joseph's to win 60-54 in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament in the Bridgeport region.

Unlike the men's tourney, form held true in the 11:00 am opener in Storrs, Connecticut as no. 8 Vanderbilt beat no. 9 St. Joe's 60-54.

Vandy took a 40-30 lead in the second half, but St. Joe's tied it at 48 on a Chatilla van Grisven lay up.

Vandy took over from there for the win and the right to play no. 1 seed UConn Monday night.

Commodores senior Tiffany Clarke had 16 points and 12 rebounds and junior Jasmine Lister had 14 points.

For the Hawks, senior Chatilla van Grisven had 16 points and 12 rebounds, but spent a lot of time on the bench in the first half, picking up 2 fouls in the first 3 minutes of the game. She scored her team's first 10 points of the second half.

Vandy is one of the youngest teams in the country and got contributions from a number of freshmen. They were making their 14th consecutive NCAA appearance.

St. Joe's finishes the season at 23-9. Coached by Cindy Griffin, they had not been in the tourney since 2000.
