Who? The Wolverines of Michigan.
What? The origin of the Wolverine name is contested. There is no mascot.
Where? Ann Arbor, Michigan, which lives up to its arboreal name.
When? March 24th in Palo Alto, California.
Why? They're not the strongest of at-large teams, but their RPI and SOS are good, and 21 wins is a nice number. They did what they had to do.
How? They were an at-large selection.
Surprise? They finished fifth in the conference.
RPI: 36
SOS: 35
Record: 21-10 (9-7 Big Ten)
Good wins: At Purdue.
Bad losses: At Utah. Also, Kim, you are not allowed to lose to Ohio State, this is a Michigan thing.
Who's running this show? Kim Barnes Arico, since 2012, who brought awesomeness to St. John's.
Extra, Extra! AnnArbor.com, yes, the newspaper is on the web, no, there appears to be nothing in the Detroit Free Press.
Three-point bombing senior guard Kate Thompson leads the Wolverines in scoring with 14.5 per game, shooting 39.1% from beyond the arc. Senior guard Jenny Ryan runs the show, dropping 5.1 assists per game and just under two steals. She and senior forward Rachel Sheffer (12.7 points, 5.9 rebounds) are hard-nosed glue players who are determined to win at all costs. (Seriously, I'm not sure I'd mess with either of them in a dark alley.)
