Dance Card: Kansas, Big XII

Birdwatching- hark, a rarity!

USA TODAY Sports

Who? The Jayhawks of Kansas.

What? The jayhawk is a cross between a blue jay and a sparrow hawk. Big Jay and Baby Jay are the usual jays.

Where? Lawrence, Kansas, by one vote over Emporia.

When? March 23rd, in Boulder, Colorado.

Why? Has to be the SOS. I have no idea what they're doing here, to be honest, but I said that about them last year, and they almost knocked out Tennessee.

How? They were an at-large selection.

Surprise? Predicted to finish third in the conference, they finished seventh.

RPI: 56

SOS: 25

Record: 18-13 (8-10 Big XII)

Good wins: At Creighton.

Bad losses: At Arkansas.

Who's running this show? Bonnie Hendrickson, since 2004, who played at St. Cloud State.

Extra, Extra! The Lawrence Journal-World.

Senior forward Carolyn Davis leads the Jayhawks with 15.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game on 54.9% from the field. Diminutive senior point guard Angel Goodrich averages 14.2 points, 6.9 assists, and close to three steals, and is a solid playmaker.

Factoid that will only amuse me: Carolyn Davis and Chelsea Gardner have the same number of rebounds going into the NCAA tournament, 208 in 31 games.
