Dance Card: Iowa, Big Ten at-large

Can the Hawkeyes hold down home court?

Phil Sears-US PRESSWIRE

Who? The Hawkeyes of Iowa.

What? The Hawkeye name is derived from The Last of the Mohicans. Herky came about in 1948.

Where? Iowa City, Iowa, headquarters of the ACT.

When? March 24th, in Iowa City, Iowa.

Why? They seem kind of dicey to me. We'll see if they earn it, and what kind of uproar there is if they do.

How? They were an at-large selection.

Surprise? They finished seventh in the conference.

RPI: 40

SOS: 26

Record: 20-12 (8-8 Big Ten)

Good wins: At Purdue.

Bad losses: At Florida International.

Who's running this show? Lisa Bluder, since 2000. Her last job was at Drake.

Extra, Extra! Hawk Central, brought to you by both the Des Moines Register and the Iowa City Press-Citizen.

Senior center Morgan Johnson leads the Hawkeyes with 14.8 points and 7.5 rebounds on 53% shooting from the field. Sophomore guard Samantha Logic is second in rebounds with 6.5, adding 6.5 assists as well. Senior guard Jaime Printy's ability to hit her free throws is an understated part of the Iowa offense; if you have a shooter who's hitting 92% of her free throws, you have a nice security blanket.
