Who? The Hurricanes of Miami.
What? Floridians know exactly how destructive hurricanes can be, so I suppose it makes sense as a fearsome name (though, personally, I wouldn't be inclined to name something I liked after something that could leave my house somewhere in South Carolina, but that's just me). Sebastian is named after the residence hall that created him. He's an ibis.
Where? Miami, Florida, the largest cruise ship port in the world.
When? March 24th, in Iowa City, Iowa.
Why? Double-digit wins in the ACC is a pretty good sign that you'll be dancing.
How? They were an at-large selection.
Surprise? Predicted to finish fifth in the conference by the coaches and sixth by the Blue Ribbon Panel, they tied with Florida State for fourth.
RPI: 51
SOS: 60
Record: 21-10 (11-7 ACC)
Good wins: Penn State.
Bad losses: At Rutgers, on so many levels.
Who's running the show? Katie Meier, since 2005. She shaped Charlotte into an A-10 contender.
Extra, Extra! The Miami Herald.
Senior forward Morgan Stroman leads the Hurricanes with 12.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. Senior guard Stefanie Yderstrom adds 12 points on 37.7% from beyond the arc. Senior center Pepper Wilson is a force in the middle, a big body who fills space and hits over half of her shots from the field.
Every player on this team has more turnovers than assists. Every single one, top to bottom.
