Dance Card: Colorado, Pac-12 at-large

Buffed to a proper shine.

Kelley L Cox-US PRESSWIRE

Who? The Buffaloes of Colorado. Known to their fans as Buffs, possibly because "Buffaloes" is an affront to the English language.

What? Colorado has had a buffalo since 1934, thanks to a somewhat contested naming contest; she's been Ralphie since 1966.

Where? Boulder, Colorado, where prairie dogs enjoy special protection.

When? March 23rd in Boulder, Colorado.

Why? They deserve it and then some.

How? They were an at-large selection.

Surprise? Predicted to finish ninth in the conference, they finished in fourth.

RPI: 25

SOS: 67

Record: 25-6 (13-5 Pac-12)

Good wins: Louisville.

Bad losses: Nothing that you wouldn't expect. All their losses were to the teams above them in conference standings.

Who's in charge around here? Linda Lappe, since 2010, a decorated Buffalo herself.

Extra, Extra! The Denver Post.

Senior guard Chucky Jeffery leads the way for Colorado, averaging 13.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and close to 4 assists per game and often taking the team on her shoulders. Freshman forward Arielle Roberson has made an impact in her first year, with 12.1 points and 6 rebounds per game, along with excellent timing on her threes (she doesn't take many, but she's hit 42% of them). Linda Lappe will have to look to her bench for minutes and interior defense with the news that Rachel Hargis will miss the tournament with a torn MCL.

I sort of wish they'd been matched with South Florida- between the Bulls' Smiths and the Buffs' Wilsons and Malcolm-Pecks, we'd be knee-deep in twin jokes.
