Dance Card: Creighton, Missouri Valley at-large

A little birdy told me that Creighton's not half-bad.

Who?The Bluejays of Creighton.

What? Derived from the school colors, Billy and his team are the only Bluejays in Division I.

Where? Omaha, Nebraska, where cake mix was invented.

When? March 23rd, in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Why? Solid RPI. It was a close thing, though, especially after they choked in the conference tournament.

How? They were an at-large selection.

Surprise? Predicted to finish first in the conference, they tied with Wichita State, then fell to second on the tiebreaker.

RPI: 31

SOS: 89

Record: 24-7 (15-3 Missouri Valley)

Good wins: Nebraska. South Florida in Cancun.

Bad losses: At Indiana State.

Who's running this show? Jim Flanery, since 2002. They call him Flan.

Extra, Extra!The Omaha World-Herald.

Creighton loves the deep ball, taking almost 800 threes on the season for an average of 25 per game. Freshman Marissa Janning leads the Jays in scoring with 13 points per game, but junior forward Sarah Nelson is the player to watch, with 11.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Janning and junior guard McKenzie Fujan both shoot over 40% from beyond the arc.

And they're facing a zone team in their first game...
