Dance Card: Cal Poly, Big West champions

Don't hold your horses, as it were.

Who? The Mustangs of Cal Poly. Well, that's the short form. I don't think anyone actually says California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

What? Musty has his own blog.

Where? San Luis Obispo, California, along the Track of the Bears.

When? March 16th in Anaheim, California.

Why? They won the Big West conference tournament.

How? Ariana Elegado had 22 points, and the Mustangs capitalized on 30 free throws to beat Pacific 63-49.

Surprise? Predicted to finish fourth in the conference, they ended up tied for second with Hawai'i.

RPI: 79

SOS: 113

Record: 21-10 (13-5 Big West)

Good wins: At Oregon State.

Bad losses: San Francisco.

Who's driving this thing? Faith Mimnaugh, since 1997. You have to be kind of fierce to have played for a team called the Scorpions.

Extra, Extra! The Tribune.

Junior center Molly Schlemer leads the Mustangs with 12.7 points on 55.6% shooting from the field, adding 6.8 rebounds. Sophomore guard Ariana Elegado adds 12.1 points, including 38.7% from downtown. They're going to have to do a better job of getting to the line if they want to spring an upset.
