2013 WNBA Draft prospects: A preliminary list

The time has come to get a sense of the landscape of 2013 WNBA Draft prospects, if it's not past due.

Before getting to a full "draft board" in which we determine which players are most "roster-worthy", we have to have a sense of the players that should be considered "draft-worthy".

The following list is the players who we've already written about in one form or another during this college basketball season. You'll probably notice that there are close to 40 players listed for a draft that only has 36 selections. That means two things:

• At least a few players on this list are probably not considered draftable.
  
• This wasn't an attempt to nail the "top 36 prospects" as much as a list of players we've wondered about at some point in the season in the process of trying to figure out who might be able to contribute at the next level (meaning that despite its length there are solid players missing who we just haven't even mentioned yet).
  

Ultimately, this is a list of players I could probably say something about - you'll find that all of these players are mentioned somewhere in our WNBA Draft prospects storystream, but this should be a much easier way of sorting through all of those as we move closer to the draft. We're going to get into separating these players into tiers based on their statistics, but just for the sake of discussion Ed Bemiss' NCAA player rater - complete with draft value projection - is an interesting place to start looking at the landscape of this (and future) drafts. But I normally use this sort of list as a starting point for my position-by-position analysis - not to mention adding it to the data about successful and unsuccessful draft prospects - and thought I'd share.
