Chicago Sky sign Pokey Chatman to extension

After consecutive seasons of getting close to their first WNBA playoff berth but falling short, the Chicago Sky announced today that they have signed coach Pokey Chatman to a contract extension, as per the release posted on their website.

Under Pokey's leadership, the Sky finished the 2011 and 2012 seasons with identical records of 14-20, narrowly missing the playoffs in each case. Her 28 career wins is second most in Sky history.

In the 2012 season, the Sky got off to a hot start at 7-1 before several key injuries changed the direction of the team. Despite this fact, the Sky set franchise marks in numerous categories including a six-game winning streak, a 22-point comeback at Atlanta on June 2, and a 29-point victory over in Phoenix on September 16.

The major injury, of course, was the one suffered by star guard Epiphanny Prince who missed eight games during the 2012 season, which sent the Sky into a tailspin that they never fully recovered from.
