Hill averaged 6.5 points and 1.7 rebounds for DC in her rookie campaign during the 2013 season after being picked fourth in the 2013 WNBA Draft. Though she did have a rough start, she averaged double figures in points for September 2013 and showed much of the potential that many of us hoped she would as a player when she reaches her prime.
The father of the child is Hill's boyfriend, David Lighty, a former wing player on the Ohio State Buckeyes men's basketball team where he played from 2006 to 2011 alongside many former stars of the program such as Mike Conley and Greg Oden among others. He is now a professional basketball player in Europe for French club JSF Nanterre.
In the 2013 NBA offseason, Lighty played for the Brooklyn Nets and the Sacramento Kings on their Summer League teams. He then played for the Atlanta Hawks during the 2013-2014 NBA Preseason, but was ultimately cut before the regular season started. Here's a lengthy and really good article on him from SBN Ohio State Buckeyes site Land-Grant Holy Land on Lighty's basketball career both while in college and the pros.
In a statement, Mystics General Manager and Head Coach Mike Thibault said:
We wish the best for Tayler and Dave. She intends to play at some point next season, and we will be glad to welcome her back when she is ready to return. Tayler's improvement over the last two months of the season was significant, and we know that she is dedicated to becoming a great player in the WNBA.
Hill also added this in the announcement:
Dave and I are happy to expand our family and are looking forward to welcoming a healthy baby. We are thankful for the support of our families and the Mystics organization as we start our new journey as parents.
Congratulations to Tayler and Dave on starting their family!
