Friday Open Thread: Five Games on LiveAccess

TGIF ladies and gents! And hello Swish Appeal Admin (aka Big Brother), wherever you are!

There are five games tonight, all on LiveAcccess. All teams will play tonight except the Storm and Shock. They played yesterday. It was ugly. LJ played like a videogame with the sliders put way up, while guard Tanisha Wright and forward Camille Little had 8 and 7 assists respectively. But that's yesterday.

Fortunately, every match tonight has a good story line of some sort, and hopefully that translates to the play tonight.

Game 1: Phoenix Mercury (6-20) at Connecticut Sun (20-7), 7 PM ET/4 PM PT and Arizona Time

I know, Phoenix has a lot of injuries, but at least young players are getting shots to show what they can do for Diana's team, if not what they could contribute to the league.

On paper, it looks like the Mercury should lose this game not unlike their last contest vs. New York, but I wouldn't be surprised if players can stay in this one longer. DT should get cheers back in the same state as her college team.

CPTV has this game locally for Connecticut residents.

Game 2: LA Sparks (19-9) at Washington Mystics (5-22), 7 PM/4 PM PT

WNBA.com | DC BasketCases Take On Today's Game | WaPo Preview

Last time these teams met, LA destroyed DC and dropped 101 points on them, capped off with a last second three that some Mystics players viewed as unsportsmanlike. Tonight, the Mystics hope to get some payback, or will they?

Four Sparks, Alana, Marissa, Nicky, and Delisha, all were Mystics at some point in their pro careers. Also, Kristi Toliver went to the University of Maryland. Big questions tonight are these.

  • Will there be a larger than usual turnout tonight?
  • Will the local fans cheer more for LA than DC because of the former Mystics in the house?

CSN Mid Atlantic has the game if you're in the DC/Baltimore area. It's the last game of the season on local TV for them too...

Game 3: Chicago Sky (10-16) at NY Liberty (11-16), 7:30 PM ET/4:30 PM PT

These two teams will battle for the last playoff spot in the East. Simple as that. Game of the night because of the implications now rather than possibly a month from now.

Game's on CN100 if you are near Chicago.

Game 4: Atlanta Dream (15-13) at Minnesota Lynx (22-4), 8 PM ET/7 PM CT/5 PM PT

WNBA.com | Lynx Preview

This is the second match between last years' conference winners. That alone, alone with Angel's recent return should make it a game to watch.

Fox Sports Net will have the game if you're in the Twin Cities.

Game 5: Indiana Fever (17-9) at San Antonio Silver Stars (17-9), 8 PM ET/7 PM CT/5 PM PT

WNBA.com | Fever Preview | Stars Preview

Stars lost three in a row but are at home. Unfortunately, they play an Indy team that lost a close one against ATL and would like to avoid a losing streak. This is also a possible Finals matchup, especially if Minnesota loses in the playoffs.

Those are the games and enjoy commenting. The only problem tonight is that all five games will be on simultaneously, especially between 8 and 9 PM.
