Who? The Commodores of Vanderbilt.
What? The school is named after Cornelius Vanderbilt; the teams are named after his nickname, the Commodore.
Where? Nashville, Tennessee, Music City.
When? March 18th, in Nashville, Tennessee.
How? They were an at-large selection.
Surprise? They've got the numbers; the seeding is right, but I'm not sure how thrilled they are about drawing MTSU.
RPI: 29
SOS: 32
Record: 22-9 (9-7 SEC)
Good wins: Oklahoma.
Bad losses: At North Carolina State is the worst I can find on here.
Who's running this show? Melanie Balcomb, since 2002.
Extra, Extra! The Tennesseean, though I'm hoping they'll have more on the women if the men are eliminated. (Sorry, Vandy guys, but I think I had Harvard.)
Vanderbilt is not exactly an offensive powerhouse, but they make the most of their chances. They are less reliant on the three-pointer than they used to be, too. Sophomore guard Christina Foggie leads the Commodores with 17.8 points per game, but she's one of four Vanderbilt players averaging double digits. Sophomore Jasmine Lister is second in scoring and averages 5.3 assists. Junior Tiffany Clarke and sophomore Stephanie Holzer are essentially tied for the team lead in rebounds (Clarke has one more than Holzer, but I don't think it's statistically relevant unless it's an o-board that resulted in a game-winning putback.) The two Vandy posts have a tendency to get in foul trouble- Clarke has fouled out four times, Holzer five; they're going to need those rebounders to avoid staying home after the subregional.
