Who? The Blue Demons of DePaul.
What? A good Catholic university called Demons? It's an elision of D-Men, but they've taken it to heart. DIBS- the Demon In a Blue Suit- represents them with honor and occasional snark.
Where? Chicago, Illinois, the City of Broad Shoulders.
When? March 17th, in Chicago, Illinois.
How? They were an at-large selection.
Partner: Brigham Young, of the West Coast Conference.
Surprise? With what's left of them, maybe, but somehow Doug Bruno has found a way to win.
RPI: 19
SOS: 15
Record: 22-10 (9-7 Big East)
Good wins: St. John's, at Princeton
Bad losses: Keisha Hampton, Taylor Pikes... oh, you mean games lost. Syracuse.
Who's running this show? Doug Bruno, since approximately the Bronze Age... nah, actually since 1988, but he's been in Chicagoland his entire career- seriously, they should name something in that city after him.
Extra, Extra! The Chicago-Sun Times. Was not impressed with the Tribune's sports section.
It's probably not a good sign when you play 32 games and only five players play in all of them. The loss of senior post Keisha Hampton to a knee injury dealt this team a severe blow. Senior guard Anna Martin has been the scorer for the Blue Demons, averaging 19.1 points on 47.8% shooting from the field, including 40.5% from deep- which is pretty dang impressive for someone who's going to be getting double coverage every time she blinks. Junior post Katherine Harry flirts with a double-double at 9.3 points and 9.6 rebounds and uses the glass well. But they don't take great care of the ball and get outrebounded by about two boards a game. I don't know if they have the gas in them for a sustained run, especially with two games in three days.
