Dance Card: Liberty, Big South

Who? The Lady Flames of Liberty.

What? Flames tend to be my reaction when dealing with Liberty, so I can't argue with the suitability of the name. Someday I want to see their Sparky take on Arizona State's Sparky.

Where? Lynchburg, Virginia, which was once the home of the Virginia State Colony for Epileptics and Feebleminded.

When? March 11th, on the campus of High Point University in High Point, North Carolina.

Why? They won the Big South Conference tournament.

How? The hosting High Point Panthers put up a fight, but the consecutive disqualifications of Cheyenne Parker and Erin Reynolds turned the tide in the Lady Flames' favor, and Liberty came out with a 81-73 win. Devon Brown had 24 points and 14 rebounds, while Avery Warley had 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Surprise? The preseason favorites in the Big South claimed the regular season title by three and a half games.

RPI (as of 3/11): 110

SOS (as of 3/11): 253

Record: 24-8 (16-2 Big South)

Good wins: UNC Greensboro?

Bad losses: At North Carolina A&T.

Who's running this show? Carey Green, since 1999; he spent a long time at Clemson as an assistant.

Extra, Extra! The News and Advance.

Dynamic junior guard Devon Brown puts up the most points, a slasher who puts up almost 17 points a game, but the key piece for this team is senior center Avery Warley. Warley is a force in the middle, averaging a double-double with 13.1 points on 57.6% shooting and 11.6 rebounds. Freshman guard Reagan Miller dishes four assists per game and is a threat from beyond the arc.
