That was the last time that the Connecticut Huskies lost back-to-back home contests. Coupled with the 57-56 loss to St. John's on Feb. 18th, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have done the nearly impossible. Notre Dame handed the Huskies a 72-59 loss at the XL Center in Hartford to leave the UConn crowd stinging for consecutive games. The last time this occurred was in 1993 when the Huskies lost consecutive home games to Stanford and Georgetown to close the regular season. If you do the math, some of the current players for the Huskies weren't even born yet.
Just like in their last meeting that was also won by the Irish, Natalie Novosel and Skylar Diggins carried the heavy scoring load for Notre Dame and finished with 21 and 20, respectively. Also like last time they played in South Bend, the UConn offense was stagnant to close the game with their last field goal coming with 8:29 to play in the game. With the win, Notre Dame is the outright regular season champions for the first time since 1995. And with the loss, the Huskies fall to 26-4 on the season. The last time UConn had four regular season losses was 2006.
