WNBA.com | ESPN's Graham Hays' take
For the Fever in Game 1, Katie Douglas was the only player in double figures, scoring 27 points on 11-19 shooting and 5-10 from three. With the exception of Douglas' beastly performance, only Tammy Sutton-Brown and Erlana Larkins averaged at least 50% shooting. The rest of the players averaged 28% from the field on 9/32 shooting. To be fair, Tamika Catchings did have a good game statistically in other areas where she had 9 rebounds, five assists vs. one turnover, and two steals.
The other factor that hurt the Fever was the free throw line where the Sun made 19 of 20 attempts, while the Fever made 9 of 12 attempts. The free throw distribution must be more even in this game, and the Fever needs to have a better all around effort, in particular on offense in order to have a chance to win tonight.
If I see plenty of scenes like this cover picture, as heroic as Katie looks here, that probably isn't going to be enough to extend the Fever's season.
So that's the scoop for today. Enjoy the basketball!
