After being released from the San Antonio Silver Stars last year, former Middle Tennessee State forward Alysha Clark (@Alysha_Clark) is back in training camp for a second shot at making the roster. She has offered to provide us first-hand insight about her experience with a training camp journal. Today she writes about food - homemade breakfast and dessert with a new experience in between.
Yesterday was a pretty good day at the office. I had a feeling it would be good because I woke up and made a great breakfast! I made scrambled egg whites with cheese, bacon, toast and yogurt with some OJ! That's the first breakfast I've cooked since being here for training camp. It's been cereal and oatmeal since the start.
Practice was mainly just playing yesterday. We had some guys come on and scrimmage us. It's always nice to play and beat up on someone else ha-ha. We also had some shooting competitions and added a few new plays. At the end of practice we do what coach calls "scripting". That's where we split up in two teams and just run through our offenses multiple times to get a lot of reps running them.
As far as our turnovers, we had ONE ball left at the end of practice! Ha-ha. Everyone was like "we only have one ball left! We have to take care of the ball!" Ha-ha. So we were pretty pleased with being able to accomplish that.
At the end coach said, "AC, if you hit one free throw we'll be done for the day." So before I started thinking too much, I stepped up to the line and knocked it down. :-)
Last night we had a crawfish boil with some of our season ticket holders. I've never eaten these creatures so I was a little nervous. Seeing the eyes and stuff still attached freaks me out! Ha-ha. Sophia [Young] was my teacher and she just kept laughing at my technique and faces I was making. After I took the vein out and cleaned off the gunk, it ended up being pretty good! They have good flavor! I ate 15 and then called it quits - my hands were hurting. But we had a good time. :-)
After we got home, I stayed and watched some of the game with Jayne [Appel]. She made these chocolate chip cookies that were DELISH!!!! Anytime she and I split something, there's no hope for it ha-ha. We eat it all!
Tomorrow we have some community service we get to do. I'm going to help kids cover up graffiti! I'm pretty excited about it!
Until next time,
Alysha
