The Phoenix Mercury announced they waived guard Taylor Lilley. Lilley made the team last season as an undrafted free agent rookie on the strength of her outside shooting and all around scrappy game but it appears she lost that battle to the bigger and more defensively oriented Alexis Gray-Lawson.

The Mercury roster now stands at 13 with two more roster cuts to come. F/C Olayinka Sanni also seems to be on track to make the roster which would leave Brittany Spears and Yuko Oga on the outside. By waiving Lilley now, the Mercury give her a chance to get on with another team that might be looking for outside shooting for their bench.

Not much of a surprise here -- the Mercury also announced Tuesday that they waive second round pick Brittany Spears. She's not considered to have the basketball IQ to play at this level although she did display some flashes of talent in camp. She's a player who could pop back up in a few years if she continues to work at her craft.
