Time to Dance: Maryland

Terrapin fans, be not afraid: these last 33 were done more or less in random order, with a long Internet interruption in between.  Writing this up last does not reflect any opinions I have on your team.

Who? The Terrapins of Maryland.

What? Testudo is a diamondback turtle, native to the Chesapeake Bay area. Maryland embraces its unusual mascot- you'll hear "Fear the Turtle!" quite a lot from their fans.

Where? College Park, Maryland, in the DC metro area. (Or perhaps that should be Metro area, on the green line.)

When? Sunday the 20th, versus St. Francis in College Park.

Why? They're a very talented team with a tendency to lose games they shouldn't.

How? They were an at-large selection from the ACC.

Surprise? Nope.

Who's driving this thing, anyway? Brenda Frese, since 2002. Was once confined to a comfy chair. (Not the comfy chair!)

RPI: 14

SOS: 22

Record: 23-7 (9-5 ACC)

Best win: Duke (H)

Worst loss: Virginia (H)

Notable results: St. John's (W, H, 66-60), Purdue (W, A, 56-55), Duke (l, A, 71-64)

This is a frighteningly big team- at least it seems like one when you're looking at them from the perspective of an opposing fan with a tiny team. Junior center Lynetta Kizer is an imposing presence in the middle, putting up 13.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Alyssa Thomas is only a freshman, but she's been playing brilliantly this season- she leads her team with 14.2 points this season, adding 7.2 rebounds. Maryland usually owns the boards because of their height, but they can be outworked and they can be taken out of their game.
