Who? The Seminoles of Florida State.
What? The Seminole tribe was historically very welcoming to runaways, both black slaves and white indentured servants. They're one of the few tribes that has officially approved of the use of their name by a sports team. It's still a very thorny issue.
Where? Tallahassee, Florida.
When? Sunday the 20th, versus Samford in Auburn.
Why? Third in the ACC, with decent strength of schedule.
How? They were an at-large selection from the ACC.
Surprise? Nope. They landed about where third in the ACC would get them, in neutral territory (more or less).
Who's driving this thing, anyway? Sue Semrau, since 1996. Did a lot of soccer PR back in the day.
RPI: 13
SOS: 21
Record: 23-7 (11-3 ACC)
Best win: Vanderbilt (H)
Worst loss: Yale (A)
Notable results: Connecticut (L, A, 93-62), Michigan State (L, H, 72-64)
Burly junior center Cierra Bravard leads this team with 14.6 points and 7.6 rebounds. She's a beast in the middle, a physical player with an imposing presence. Though I will admit my bias, because I remember seeing Florida State last season in the tournament. Freshman forward Natasha Howard is also making waves, with 11 points and 6.4 boards per game.
