Time to Dance: Georgia

Who? The Bulldogs of Georgia, colloquially known as the Lady Dawgs.

What? Urban legend says that Georgia was inspired by Yale's bulldog. Their dawg is known as Uga, which is a logical but awful-sounding name to give him.

Where? Athens, Georgia, home base for R.E.M..

When? Sunday the 20th, versus Middle Tennessee in Auburn.

Why? Georgia had a fairly good season, with no truly appalling losses and a couple of excellent wins against Kentucky, which was enough to give them a 6 seed. I think it'll be interesting to see how the Auburn folks treat them.

How? They were an at-large selection from the SEC.

Surprise? I always feel like they are, but they're really not.

Who's driving this thing, anyway? Andy Landers, since 1979.

RPI: 35

SOS: 36

Record: 21-10 (10-6 SEC)

Best win: Kentucky (H), Kentucky (A)

Worst loss: Louisiana Tech (N)

Notable results: Georgia Tech (L, A, 69-53), USC (L, A, 71-63), Arkansas (W, H, OT, 57-54)

Statistically, to be brutally honest, this is not a very good team. Sophomore guard Jasmine James leads them in scoring with 12.1 per game, while senior forward Porsha Phillips averages a double-double with 11.1 points and 10.8 rebounds per game- I also find her 81.7% free throw percentage remarkable.
