Time to Dance: Hampton, Mid-Eastern

Who? The Lady Pirates of Hampton.

What? The politically correct liberal in me rails at a school having different and gendered logos for men's and women's sports; the aesthete in me goes "ooh, that's a striking logo!"

Where? Hampton, Virginia.

When? March 12th, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Why? Because they won the Mid-Eastern Athletic conference tournament.

How? 13 was the lucky number for Hampton, as three players scored 13 each to help Hampton pull away from feisty sixth seed Howard, 61-42.

Surprise? Nope. Hampton was 15-1 in conference, finishing five games ahead of the teams in second.

Who's driving this thing, anyway? David Six, since 2009, in his first season without the interim tag stuck to his name- so congratulations, Coach Six! I think they'll want to keep you around for a while.

RPI: 77

SOS: 218

Record: 26-6 (15-1)

Best win: James Madison (A)

Worst loss: Jacksonville (H)

Notable results: South Dakota State (L, A, 76-64), Florida (W, H, 69-54)

If this team is relegated to the MEAC's usual 16 seed, I'll eat my hat. They clear the boards exceptionally well for a team with only three players over six-foot. Junior guard Jericka Jenkins is their leading scorer, with 13.3 points and over seven assists per game. They rely heavily on their starters (though a double-overtime game might be skewing their minute counts).
