If not the best backcourt in the WNBA, they're right there at the top. It's because of the intangible things. It won't be because of their size. It won't be because of their physical strength. It has a lot to do with their resilience and their tenacity and their competitiveness and just their ability to elevate the team that they're on.
"We're going to get an MRI as soon as we get back tomorrow, and they told us she wasn't going to come back in. I hate to say anything. I mean they're telling me what it is, what they think it is, but they won't know until they get a picture of it."
It's nice to have a healthy Candace (Parker) around. She's a great player, very versatile. She can do all kinds of things and is extremely dangerous on the offensive end and with her length on the defensive end. So she's good to have back for the team and I've been enjoying having her back just playing with her.
The stakes are so high for the Mavericks that they don’t even care if they get a shot at exacting revenge on the Heat in the Finals.
If it’s the Chicago Bulls the Mavericks have to play, Terry said they’ll take that, too.
"It doesn’t make a difference to me," Terry said. "You can suit up the (WNBA’s) Seattle Storm and we’ll play them."
"I tell people she was the sweetest person I ever met," said Willingham. "I knew she loved kids. She was awesome with Derrick [Willingham's son]. She kept Derrick sometimes - just let him come over - and he loved being with her, loved playing with her. She was just a great person, who could make you smile, make you laugh. There was not a negative bone in her body. She was just somebody you would like to be around."
Three-time Olympic gold medalist and two-time WNBA champion Katie Smith will join the Seattle Storm for the 2011 season following a trade, Seattle Storm Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Brian Agler announced today. In addition, the Storm acquired Jacinta Monroe, also from the Washington Mystics, and the Indiana Fever’s second-round pick in the 2012 draft.
As part of the deal, Washington receives Jasmine Thomas, the Storm’s first-round pick this season, as well as Seattle’s first-round pick and Indiana’s third-round pick in 2012. Indiana receives Storm guard Erin Phillips and Seattle’s third-round pick in 2012.
Seattle Storm forward Lauren Jackson will miss the first half of the 2012 WNBA season to concentrate on Australia's buildup for the London Olympics.
Jackson said Wednesday she had reached an arrangement with the Storm which would allow her to spend May, June and July 2012 in Australia preparing for the Olympics.
"I’m thrilled that we have re-signed Jenny to the Storm coaching staff along with Nancy Darsch," Agler said. "Jenny played an integral role during our championship run. Having witnessed and experienced the WNBA from both the playing and coaching vantage points, she brings a valuable perspective to our staff. I look forward to working with her in our effort to defend the WNBA title."
I think [the Seattle Storm] have an excellent fan base and we're going to do everything we possibly can to work with the Storm and get their fans to buy-in and watch us play. I think their fans will enjoy watching us play.
In fact, we have a double-header at KeyArena - we're doing a tournament right after Christmas sponsored by State Farm with Notre Dame, Gonzaga, and Loyola Marymount. And we're hoping the Storm fans come out particularly in those games and we're working with the Storm to get some things going on there.
For me especially, playing in Seattle is a great thing. And I told my teammates: even if we're not playing at home, just playing for this community -- they love women's basketball so much -- is a great feeling. Even if they're not cheering for you, it's a great feeling that all these people here love women's basketball.
I think for us it's a joyful moment. It's not like, 'Oh they're against us.' No it's joyful because we know how much they love basketball -- women's basketball -- and how much they appreciate us. So it's just a great experience. And I think everybody wants to play for 10,000 people watching, whether they're cheering for you or not. But if they do cheer for you... {laughs}
