Diamond DeShields to transfer from UNC

Diamond DeShields has decided to transfer from UNC. It had been rumored for the past couple of weeks, but now it's official. DeShields was named National Freshman of the Year by ESPNW and USBWA and averaged 18 points and 5.8 rebounds. More details to come soon.

Finding the right comparison for Alyssa Thomas

Alyssa Thomas has made her case as the best player ever at Maryland and there's a chance that you might hear people refer to her as "the female LeBron James" on draft day. But some fans have asked whether there's a women's basketball comparison.

WNBA draft profile: How good can McBride become?

Notre Dame guard Kayla McBride had the sweetest mid-range game in the nation, but how far might that take her in the WNBA?

UConn won the 2014 title and earned three All-Tournament selections in the process with Breanna Stewart being named Most Outstanding Player.

Four things to watch in the national championship

Undefeated Notre Dame is certainly best equipped to beat UConn with all of their offensive weapons, but even they can't afford a lapse in execution on either end if they want emerge as the champs.

The perfect mindset

UConn has established an impressive track record over the past few years, but Kayla McBride and Notre Dame have that same mindset of perfection.

Notre Dame sent a message early on that they were going to take away Maryland's strength and Maryland seemed to concede the point early on.

Notre Dame dominates boards against Maryland to advance to championship game

Remember that point about Notre Dame having multiple players more than capable of replacing Natalie Achonwa's production? Or that matter of Notre Dame performing just fine against Maryland the first time with Achonwa out for an extended period?

Notre Dame took those observations and magnified them beyond what anyone could've expected with a dominant 50-21 rebounding edge in a blowout of Maryland in the Final Four to advance to the championship game.

We have a recap on the game for more, so click here for more.

Turnovers key for Maryland against Notre Dame

While the focus of Notre Dame's matchup with Maryland in the Final Four has been Natalie Achonwa's absence, that might not be as big a concern as people make it: the Irish have already beaten Maryland once this season with Achonwa essentially out.

Stanford Beats North Carolina, Back in Final Four

With Stanford hitting threes, UNC came out on the perimeter and left Chiney Ogwumike alone one-on-one in the paint. And what, Stanford fans, do C and R say when they leave Chiney alone one-on-one in the paint? Chin-nay all day.

Stanford holds off North Carolina to advance to Final Four

North Carolina gave Stanford just about everything they could, coming out hot from three point range while containing Chiney Ogwumike in the first half, forcing the prospect #1 draft pick into an uncharacteristic five turnovers, and winning the offensive rebounding battle.

But in the second half, Ogwumike's refined post game proved too much for UNC's younger players, UNC's hot three point shooting touch went cold, and mental mistakes down the stretch killed UNC.

The Tar Heels had their chances, but ultimately Stanford's experience (and home court advantage?) overwhelmed UNC in the second half en route to a 74-65 win to advance to their sixth Final Four in seven seasons.

Mikaela Ruef was awarded Most Outstanding Player and appropriately so: for her entire career she's done things that don't necessarily show up in the box score, but tonight she read UNC's defense perfectly and figured out a way to exploit every gap in the D for herself or by setting up others.

Maryland beats Louisville, advances to Final Four

Turnovers figured to be a key factor in this game and Maryland had less in the second half to pull out a 76-73 win to advance to the Final Four

I seem to be in the minority about this, but it's really hard to ignore that a game with 46 combined turnovers was a bit sloppy. But it certainly didn't lack for drama, with Shoni Schimmel missing a potentially game-tying three at the buzzer off a great inbounds play.

Schimmel finished with game-highs of 31 points and 7 turnovers while Alyssa Thomas finished with a team-high 13 rebounds to go with a team-high 22 points.

But the Notre Dame star ended her career like a boss. Just watch.

The return of "Beast Mode"

After a sub-par performance against Texas, Maryland's Alyssa Thomas left everyone in awe of her talent to lead her team to the Elite Eight.

Natalie Achonwa discusses injury in post-game interview

Interviewer Maria Taylor: "Do you know what your prognosis is, whether or not you'll be able to play in the Final Four?"

Natalie: "No I'm not sure. But I know at Notre Dame, my family and this team, we're praying people. And faith in God and the fact that whatever happens happens. And that no matter what, these 13 girls will fight."

Notre Dame's Natalie Achonwa to have an MRI, Tuesday, April 1 on her injured knee

Here's an update on Achonwa's status in regards to her knee injury during Notre Dame's win over Baylor on Monday, March 31 over Baylor.

It's April 1 on the East Coast right when this FanShot was posted. So for the record, this isn't an April Fools joke.

Hope it isn't anything horrible.

Notre Dame beats Baylor to advance to Final Four

Sadly, the officiating ended up detracting from the enjoyment of what should've been a marquee matchup between some of the nation's top offensive stars, but Notre Dame is undefeated for a reason and used their balanced lineup to beat Baylor and advance to a fourth straight Final Four.

Jewell Loyd and Odyssey Sims put on a show scoring 30 and 33 points respectively to lead their teams, but Baylor struggled as they had multiple post players in foul trouble.

Alyssa Thomas scores career-high in Maryland's win over Tennessee

As David Hooper of Rocky Top Talk wrote in his preview this morning, "We're now at the point in the tournament where any team can realistically beat any other team (Notre Dame and UConn excepted)" - it's hard to call this one a true "upset".

But with Tennessee having an opportunity to go to the Final Four with a home crowd behind them, it's certainly a disappointment for Lady Vols fans.

On the other hand, Alyssa Thomas looked about as dominant as it gets in scoring a career-high 33 points to go with 13 rebounds.

UNC vs. South Carolina rewind: Can UNC win again?

Like the Baylor - Kentucky game yesterday, the Sweet 16 game between North Carolina and South Carolina is a rematch of a December game in which the lower seed won. So what can we learn from December for today's game?

#7 DePaul upsets #2 Duke, advances to Sweet 16

I was neither confident that DePaul would be in the second round nor that Duke would lose at home in my preview of the Lincoln bracket, but Queenie sounded pretty confident that Duke would not advance and that DePaul would be the one to take them down during her radio interview on Edge of Sports Radio with Dave Zirin and it came to fruition tonight.

Offensively, DePaul spread the court with a crew of players who can score from deep with the quickness to drive to the basket; Defensively, Duke was struggled to contest shooters and stop dribble penetration.
