Liberty vs. Lynx final score: Tina Charles' career-high leads New York to 87-80 victory

+

As alluded to in Ray Floriani's post describing the first five possessions, the New York Liberty went to Tina Charles on three of their first seven possessions. After getting comfortable in the paint, Charles went on to score a career-high 32 points in a big win against the Minnesota Lynx. Plenty more to come on this game from New York.

Lynx beat out Wolves and Twins in local sports poll

1

Here is a piece from Friday in the Star Tribune which analyzed a poll which asked people which Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) pro sports team they were most excited about. The Vikings NFL team had the most interest (38% or 945 votes out of nearly 2,500), followed by the Wild NHL team (33% or 813 votes). The Lynx were third (23% or 562 votes), followed by the Twins MLB and Timberwolves NBA teams, which didn't get 100 votes each. The poll was unofficial, but it does show that the Lynx have gained relevance in the Twin Cities' sports scene.

During this Thursday game, the Lynx also held the Stars from making a single field goal for over ten minutes, going on a 20-1 run in that time. Before than run, the Lynx were down, 35-30, but were up, 50-36 after that.

Alexis Jones is transferring from Duke

2

Per multiple sources, Duke starting guard Alexis Jones is transferring from the program. She is the second guard to transfer from Duke as Kiana Holland left during the season. Jones, who is recovering from a torn ACL, was the Blue Devils’ third leading scorer this past season at 13.1 points per game. She also averaged 5.3 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 2.1 as well. This is a devastating blow for the Blue Devils who already lost four starters to graduation: Chelsea Gray, Richa Jackson, Haley Peters and Tricia Liston. Also, contributing guard Chloe Wells was not a part of the team late in the years. More details to come later.

Indy goes cold down the stretch in 76-68 loss to Atlanta

+
Michael Pointer of the Indianapolis Star summed this one up nicely in pointing out that the Indiana Fever went scoreless for nearly four minutes to finish a 76-68 loss to the visiting Atlanta Dream. The cold finish to the game capped a fourth quarter in which the Fever shot just 28.6%.

Mystics vs. Stars Final Score: S.A. wins 73-65

+

The Stars came out running in this one. The Mystics played catchup after that, I'll have more soon.

Liberty vs. Sun Final Score: New York pulls off a close 67-65 win

+

The Libs were up by 11 with under seven minutes left. Though the Sun did come up close, it wasn't enough for them to avoid a second straight loss.
