Indiana Fever reschedules home preseason game from Monday, May 5 to Tuesday, May 6

USA TODAY Sports

The Indiana Fever has rescheduled a home preseason game against the Washington Mystics from Monday, May 5 to Tuesday, May 6.

In the WNBA during this time of year, games are often rescheduled or held at alternative venues when an NBA or NHL team has a playoff game.

The Fever is the first team to have to deal with this, because the Indiana Pacers MAY host the Washington Wizards in Game 1 of the second round of the NBA Playoffs on Monday, May 5 at Consecon Fieldhouse, the same day when they were scheduled to host the Washington Mystics in a matinee game (emphasis mine). The Fever-Mystics game has been delayed to Tuesday, May 6 at 12 p.m. ET to ease complications. Since there are often tons of giveaways, like T-shirts or rally towels given to every fan for an NBA playoff game, this isn't that surprising.

Currently, the Indiana Pacers, the #1 seed in the NBA's Eastern Conference are tied 3-3 against the #8 seed Atlanta Hawks in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. I'm not going to elaborate on how this series came to that point, and you can check out SB Nation's Indy Cornrows or Peachtree Hoops for that. Game 7 of the series will be held Saturday, May 3 at 5:30 p.m. ET.

If the Pacers win, the move will be justified, in particular if Game 1 of their second round series with the Wizards involves a "Gold Out" shirt night or something like that. But let's say that the Pacers lose to the Hawks. Then this move may look pretty bad.

I wouldn't count the Mystics out from being totally immune from the NBA Playoffs either. If the Hawks beat the Pacers on Saturday, the Wizards, a #5 seed in the Eastern Conference would host the Hawks on Monday, May 5 at Verizon Center. If Game 2 is on Wednesday, May 7, it would be on the same day as the Mystics' preseason game against the Fever at 11:30 a.m., and then I would imagine that the WNBA game would be delayed a day, or even moved to another location, because I would imagine that the Verizon Center needs to look like this again:

I don't know what the real time was to put down the T-shirts in this video, but I would imagine that it can't just be done at 2 or 3 p.m. for a game that begins at 8 p.m. or so.

The NBA Playoffs are certainly an exciting time for fans of their respective teams. But it is also frustrating that WNBA teams' fans often don't get the chance to see their teams play at their rightful homes.
