Dance Card: Nebraska, Big Ten

It took a couple of shifts in conference alignment for Nebraska to win their first tournament title, but it's now the Huskers' time to shine.

Who? The Cornhuskers of Nebraska.

What? Initially, Cornhuskers referred to Nebraska beating Iowa- and Iowa was the team being referred to as Cornhuskers. Herbie Husker recently ditched his overalls.

Where? Lincoln, Nebraska, which is apparently a really good place to retire.

When? March 9th, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Why? They won the Big Ten conference tournament.

How? Rachel Theriot had 19 of her 24 points in the second half to hold off Iowa, 72-65. Big games from Jordan Hooper (18 points and 10 rebounds) and Hailie Sample (11 points, game-high 15 rebounds) helped seal the win. Iowa made a run behind 20 points form Ally Disterhoft and the all-around game of Samantha Logic, but an inability to get to the line did the exhausted Hawkeyes in.

Surprise? Predicted to finish first in the conference, they ended up in third, one game behind Michigan State and Penn State.

RPI: 24

SOS: 64

Record: 25-6 (12-4 Big Ten)

Good wins: Penn State.

Bad losses: At Northwestern. Washington State looks better than it did at the start of the season.

Who's running this show? Connie Yori, since 2002.

Extra, Extra! The Journal-Star. Looks like our cohorts at Corn Nation are getting in on the action, too.

Senior forward Jordan Hooper (20.4 points, 9.1 rebounds) leads the Cornhuskers' attack, dangerous both inside and out (36.1% beyond the arc). Sophomore guard Rachel Theriot, out from under the shadow of Lindsey Moore, adds 14.0 points and 7.0 assists from the point guard position. Junior guard Tear'a Laudermill can light it up from beyond the arc (40.4% on the season).

When Nebraska's on, they are on. When they're off... it's not pretty.

Random thing that pleases me: Rachel Theriot's phenomenal shooting, especially for a guard. 49.8% from the field, 45.9% beyond the arc? And a 2.7 A/TO? Timing.
