Seattle Storm president & CEO Karen Bryant announces resignation at tenuous time for WNBA

The Seattle Storm have announced that 2014 will be president & CEO Karen Bryant's final season with the team.

The team's release offers a brief rundown of her history with the Storm, but Jayda Evans of The Seattle Times helped to place this announcement in the broader context of league activity.

News of Bryant's departure comes at a tenuous time for the WNBA. On Thursday, Los Angeles Sparks chairman Paula Madison announced her family-owned company could no longer be involved with the charter franchise. NBA commissioner David Stern, who initiated the birth of the league, is retiring in February and the CBA expired in September.

But those involved emphatically claim the issues are unrelated.

Even if these things aren't signs of the league's imminent demise, it's not exactly good to see a founding team, the NBA champion, and a major player in keeping the Storm in Seattle when the Sonics relocated all leaving in the same time frame.
