2013 WNBA Playoffs: Los Angeles Sparks force a Game Three with 82-73 win in Phoenix

Jennifer Stewart-USA TODAY Sport

The Los Angeles Sparks beat the Phoenix Mercury in Game 2 of their first round series in the 2013 WNBA Playoffs.

In a postseason that has not been friendly to home teams, the Los Angeles Sparks beat the Phoenix Mercury 82-73 at US Airways Center to force a Game Three in their first round of the 2013 WNBA Playoffs.

One of the stranger statistics of the series ended up being a telling one in tonight's outcome.

The Sparks didn't win this game - and won't win this series - with an outstanding shooting performance. Instead. a strong first half performance that featured aggressive rebounding and efficient ball handling helped them to establish a 14-point lead that ended up being an insurmountable deficit for the Mercury.

With both teams having lost a game at home, the series returns to L.A. for a decisive third game.
