With the announcement of the "Big 3" in the WNBA Draft signing to Nike, a story was posted on NiceKicks.com the other week posing the question: "Is it time for a women's basketball signature sneaker?" The article briefly looks into the viability of a women's signature basketball sneaker and incorporates two contrasting perspectives from Shereka Wright (Texas Tech assistant coach) and Tiffany Jones (Tulsa Shock).
As a sneaker fan, I've always wondered what the answer is and who would be the best brand representative. There are several interesting viewpoints in the article such as the performance (i.e. how sneakers fit for women players) and the cultural aspects of a male-dominated sneakerhead market to make the case for both sides.
I'm of the opinion of "Why not?" Brands these days have large enough budgets to test it out. In the least, this would bring some overall positive energy and exposure to the WNBA.
