Per sources within the athletic department, Clemson has finalized the rumored hiring of Audra Smith as their new head women’s basketball coach and will announce it today. A press conference is set for 2:00 pm.
Smith replaces Itoro Coleman who was let go on March 8th. In her three years at the helm, Coleman compiled an overall record of 25-63 and 10-38 in the ACC.
Smith brings a vast amount of basketball experience to the table, she played at Virginia where she was apart of the three consecutive Final Fours (1990-92). Smith also was an assistant coach under Hall of Famer Debbie Ryan for 10 years.
In her nine-year span as head coach at University of Alabama-Birmingham, she guided the Blazers to the upper tier of Conference USA. The last four years of her tenure for the Blazers was a great success; she led UAB to four consecutive winning seasons which was the best in a decade. They also captured a WBI championship in 2011.
