Games I'd wish I'd seen: 6 December 2013

USA TODAY Sports

The game everyone wishes they'd seen was Kentucky-Baylor. But what else was there?

Yesterday evening, as we were entertaining out-of-town guests, I decided to examine my Twitter feed and see what was up.  The damn thing blew up with all sorts of references to Kentucky/Baylor.  When I got home, I found the ESPN3 website and watched the last of Kentucky vs. Baylor, a four-overtime game that ended 133-130 in favor of the Wildcats that set a metric load of records.

Okay.  I can't say this is a game that I wished I seen because I saw it.  But what else was there?

Auburn (6-3) beat Saint John's (5-3) 69-55 at home.  This was the SEC/Big East Challenge, and I didn't even know there was such a thing.  This game belonged to Tigers junior guard Hasina Muhammad, who scored a career-high 28 points on 11-for-19 shooting.  Senior guard/forward Tyrese Tanner also scored 20 points for Auburn.

Late in the game, Muhammad - who is "only" 6-1 - attempted the first dunk by any Auburn player.  Unfortunately, she couldn't get enough air.  But even if she had thrown down a la Brittney, her achievement would have been eclipsed by the Kentucky/Baylor game.

Montana (5-1) held off Idaho (5-4) by a score of 59-56 in the opening game of the Holiday Inn Lady Griz Classic.  The Lady Griz still led by six with about five minutes left, but seven straight points by the Vandals gave Idaho a 53-52 lead and then it was touch and go.  Idaho led 56-54 with 2:08 left but sophomore guard Christina Salvatore - who hit the 3-pointer that put the Vandals up - missed the only two shots Idaho would make for the rest of  the game, both 3-pointers.  Junior Lady Griz guard Kellie Cole hit the winning 3-pointer for Montana with 16 seconds left.
