Many of you, myself included own Apple iPhones and iPads. I myself own a Sprint iPhone 4S and a "new iPad", a/k/a the iPad 3. Yesterday, iOS 6 was released to the public for download.
Tomorrow (oops, typo late at night), the iPhone 5 will also be released, and with iOS 6 preloaded. Since this is sports blog, and not a tech blog, I'll stop right here before this post becomes either too technical or "geeky" and I'm not a particularly technical person.
If you didn't know, Vox Media, the company that owns SB Nation also owns a tech news blog/site called The Verge. Here is an article yesterday from them about the new iOS release. And if you need everything from the source, look at Apple's iOS site.
One of the new features of iOS 6, if you have an iPhone 4S/5, newest iPod touch, or the "new iPad," is that Siri, the virtual assistant can now give a rather intelligent answer (with the help of Yahoo! Sports) on sports scores, rosters, etc. Obviously, the Big Four leagues are covered along with major college football and basketball. Also, the WNBA is included, so if you ask for league standings, you will get this:
Siri can also get you a team roster on request. I asked for the Lynx, and she delivered. In the past Siri may look for "Minnesota Links" instead.:
Unlike the big four leagues, I can't get detailed stat info, like who is the leading scorer in the league, and that would be Angel McCoughtry. Take at look at this disparity, and I tried at least three times:
I also checked with Siri about head coaches of teams, and unfortunately she failed to deliver in BOTH the NBA and the WNBA:
But to be doubly fair to Siri, maybe it's a good thing that she didn't know who the Mystics head coach is. Or is this a sign of optimism from her? Hmmmm....
