That's right boys and girls. Six games total today (meaning Thursday) and tomorrow. Everyone except the Sky will play on these nights.. Five games today, one more tomorrow, and two on NBA TV. You also have LiveAccess.
1. Washington Mystics (5-19) at Atlanta Dream (12-13), 7 PM ET/4 PM PT
At the beginning of this season, I thought that the Mystics had more questions about their team than everyone else combined and multiplied by 10 times. That has all changed in the span of a week or so. Even without Angel McCoughtry, this team had their way against us last Friday, and they look to do the same today. Considering that they lost to Tulsa on Tuesday, don't expect them to give this one up tonight. Otherwise, it's more drama around the drama.
This is also on NBA TV, and SPSO if you're in Atlanta.
2. Indiana Fever (15-8) at NY Liberty (9-15), 7 PM ET/4 PM PT
Last of four matches between these two teams. Given that the Sky had a very bad stretch of games and New York has been able to hold the fort, Cappie and her teammates now find themselves in that 4th seed for the Eastern Conference playoffs and a few more wins should solidify their spot.
Game is also on MSG if you're in the NYC/Newark/Long Island area.
3. Connecticut Sun (18-6) at San Antonio Silver Stars (17-7), 8 PM ET/7 PM CT/5 PM PT
This is the game of the night for me, and I'd rather have this one on NBA TV. This could be a possible future Finals matchup too for what it's worth.
4. LA Sparks (19-6) at Tulsa Shock (5-19), 8 PM ET/7 PM CT/5 PM PT
Tonight would have been the return of Liz, but she decided to rest. At any rate, the season goes on, and the Shock hopes to take any frustration it has on the road team tonight.
5. Phoenix Mercury (4-19) at Seattle Storm (11-13), 10 PM ET/7 PM PT and Arizona Time
Tonight is the Storm's Women of Inspiration Night, where former Starbucks lead counsel Paula Boggs, former Washington Supreme Court justice Bobbe Bridge, former Storm player Kate Starbird, and former Gates Foundation CEO Patty Stonesifer get honored.
More importantly is the game at hand. I never thought that Phoenix would ever be the WORST team in the league based on record. Never. But at the same time, DT should be able to play some minutes, right? If she does play, I'd like to see a DT vs. Sue shoot out. Winner of the shootout will probably win this game. Otherwise, this game shouldn't be that competitive with LJ also back into the fold.
Tulsa Shock (6-19) at Minnesota Lynx (20-4), 8 PM ET/7 PM CT/5 PM PT
This is the last of five matches between these two squads. The Shock has actually managed to play competitively for the first half against the Lynx in their previous matches, but as is the case with a talent depleted roster, they just couldn't do it in the 2nd half against the defending champs. The LA and Minny back to back is kinda brutal for them, and I know I'm throwing the "what if Lizzy was here" shtick again, but if she was here for both of these games, things could have been more entertaining.
This game is on NBA TV, and I think it deserves to be because Tulsa not only beat LA badly yesterday, but Tulsa also has now won two in a row.
Friday, 8:30 AM Update: Wow, last night's (Thursday) Shock game was a great win for the black and yellow, and hopefully a sign of things to come. Tulsa now has doubled its win total from last year, and with one more win, the Shock will have a franchise high number of wins since relocating to its current town. Here's to hoping that happens (without the Shock getting a bad bounce of the balls of course)!
The only team without at least a two game winning streak in the last two seasons? You guessed it! DC! Last week, the Mystics had the third worst record in the league, but now, they are literally the worst team in the league at least until their next game on Saturday at The Rock vs. the Libs. Only fitting that the Mystics now own the league's current longest losing streak. Then again, the Mystics need lotto balls, even though their long term future to a great degree will be determined by luck of the lottery later this fall. The losing isn't what I care about now. I want to see young players' progress, especially Nat's! Jasmine is getting run, but as I wrote in other posts, I believe that a big party why is because she is from the DMV, and also played at Duke, not just because she has footspeed and at least in college, she had some good scoring ability.
So that's it.
Feel free to comment away on the games, your feelings on some fishy things going on with numerous teams both named and not named the Washington Mystics, and meme away with the "Y U No" guy to air those grievances.
Friday 8:30 AM Update: A LOT OF Y U NO'S IN MY HEAD NOW....
